Sarah and I went to meet up with some other family memebers/friends to catch my cousin, Chet Dixon's, alter ego - Ray Don - and his musical performance at Fat Cat's Saloon in Prairieville. I had never been to that bar and really enjoyed myself there - a cool, run down atmosphere.

Check out below for some edited photos. You can see the rest of them in an album via my Facebook after I upload 'em.

This is so rock and roll. Thanks to Jeff Roedel for doing such a great writeup on my life/career. Most of everything was accurate and I love how it's not a "pity" story which is the last thing I wanted. Yes, of course - me being Deaf is a huge part of who I am and I made sure it was included into my interview. The quote Jeff chose to be showcased says

"They didn't hire me for my hearing. They hired me for my eye."

That says it all.

Check it out! We looked for the latest issue on their online site but it all hasn't been uploaded yet but if it does, I'll be sure to link it for you guys to read in depth!

There are two photos they chose as well, one is of my buddy - the model/actor/personal trainer Jared Edwards in Los Angeles, along with one of my absolute favorite captures of my good friend who also acts, Shoshannah Stern. Ironically, the cover story is all about movies in Baton Rouge!

Thank you to Rose Ray, who has been nothing but a fantastic friend to me in the last few years that I've known her. She interpreted the interview between Jeff and I.

Again, thank you to all of you who have had utmost confidence in me - I am where I am today because of all of you, my clients!

My good friend, and an old college roomate - Megan Newman, has started up her own company selling the Cling (Cling Modern Murals) product! I am so pumped up about some "cling" pieces she is making for Maison Looziana - and you bet, when they're up - I'll take a photo of it all so you can check it out! She also has a blog at ClingEverything.Blogspot.

They're very reasonably priced and EASY to apply to your walls. Check it out - and of course, check out the portrait I shot of her for this website!!! Another TTP Snapshot sighting! ;-)

Tonya Szele, who runs Soigne Productions, put together Lucy and Josh Oppenheimer's wedding at the Firestone Vineyard last September in Los Olivios, California - which was nothing but spectacular!

Her company does great work so I definitely suggest you check them out! Thank you Tonya for the addition of Lucy and Josh's portfolio to your website! I'm thrilled.

I have been working ALL day on editing so decided to take a break and work on this blog! I got some questions asking what kind of art we bought, and how we knew what to do with it? Why? Where did we get it? So here's a rundown on what's happenin' on the Masion Looziana walls these days!

Sarah and I LOVE our house. We love playing with it. We're having a ball doing the interior design for it. We're never satisfied and over the months - I've bought some artwork from different places including the 20x200 website that I keep raving on and on about. Some are bought from travels, some are gifts, and some we just randomly/and impulsively buy!

We usually don't have an idea of where/what we'll do with the stuff we buy. When we finally figured out where we wanted everything - we went and got things framed a few days ago, so we're so excited to finally having things better showcased in our home.

We're not done, of course. We never will be. ALWAYS buy ART. SUPPORT art and do what you can to help the art world continue to be an amazing thing that we all can enjoy.

In no random order......... our wall art!

The "Let's find some place...." photo is by Shaun Sundholm and I bought the 11 x14 sized print. The grey clock - we bought locally in Baton Rouge from Circa 1857

lost.jpgThese two pieces are hanging in our bedroom as well side by side. The floral print is inside a mirror style frame that we bought last weekend in Clinton, Missisippi from a really cool store called The Cupboard. The clear hanging frame is a really cool one we found cheap at Hobby Lobby! It just fit our bedroom so perfectly and the photos are "all us".

bedroomwall1.jpgThis is a gold/silver painted steel crown that we bought from The Royal Standard locally in Baton Rouge. They have awesome room filler stuff - some are original works but there's alot of "duplicate" stuff that they sell. Great for gift giving! We hung it above our doorway that leads you from our bedroom into the last room of the house which is the master bathroom.

crownbedroom.jpg
This wall is in our master bathroom on the left side. I'd been wanting to rip out these photos of a "damaged" Helmut Newton photobook I bought for like 9 bucks at a used bookstore. I always envisoned just ripping pages out and creating a piece of wall art in an organic manner (which I did by using simple tacks pushed into the wall). This worked out so perfect because these photos include alot of nudity, bathtubs, and clothing all in random manner. I LOVE Helmut Newton's work. He inspires me. I love bathing with his ripped pages above my head.

newtonrips.jpgAlso in the bathroom hangs this MEGA huge straw hat that we bought for Sarah from The Limited a few months ago. It's just SO huge and it just didn't do it justice to spend the money on that hat, then stick it in the closet. Our spot above our toilet was the perfect size for it to be hung on - therefore the hat became our wall art! For those who watched The Real Housewives of New Jersey - Teresa had this hat on in Atlantic City!

teresahat.jpgThis is our print by Lina Boden that we bought from H&M in DC. I looove her stuff, be sure to check out her website. This is hanging in our breakfast room area of the kitchen by the back door!

kitchenart.jpgNow here's a piece of a one of kind art that we bought in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana at a crawfish restaurant that had tons of local artwork hanging on their wall. This is by an artist (I'm not sure what the name was) who salvaged these pieces from the Hobby Beach after Hurricane Gustav hit us, and created this. It's hanging in our front room of the guest bathroom for now. I'm not sure if we'll leave it in there.

hurricaneart.jpgOnce you go into the tub/toilet area in the guest bathroom - I had been acquiring different photographs through 20x200.com for this specific wall. I wanted the photos I bought to have GREEN in it (mostly the dominant color). Sure enough, I bought these three separate at different times via the site (I swear, I could spend tons and tons and tons of money on that website). When we got them framed, we were thinking "green" and how awesome they'd look on the wall but when it was time to HANG them up - we had the idea of putting them in "order" to create a story! The naked woman is first, then you have the figure blurry with the "screen" in focus for the second photo, then in the third one is "I'm Not Mad" ice metling in the sun. Isn't that just too cool - you can create your OWN art on a wall with using DIFFERENT artists works. Art is always available for growth and we can only continue to make it happen.

(so you can see the photo works CLEARLY, click on the titles below)
1. Untitled (Suze Hedge) 2006 by Brandon Herman (who I shot naked in the alleys of Los Angeles last year)
2. Untitled #15 by Matthew Tischler
3. I'm Not Mad by Kotama Bouabane

greenphotos.jpgHere's a glance at our ever evolving wall in our middle living room (where we watch TV, chill, eat dinner, and whatnot). We decided to just have a mix of works up on it! I labeled everything on the photo so you could check it out!

tullierlivingroomwall.jpgHere's a closeup of Cameron Ingalls photograph. I bought it through a charity he was contributing to, which I also mentioned before to y'all. That charity is Jackson's Smile. PLEASE check out the website and contribute to this and at the same time you get NEW wall art!

cameroningalls.jpgAnyway! There you go - a preview of some of our walls that we've been working on. We have tons more of wall space to buy art for! We can't wait to expand our collection and for those of you that haven't seen them - come visit!

Have a great afternoon (and WEEKEND coming up!!!! We're going to stay at the W hotel tomorrow/Saturday night so we can't WAIT!!!!).

Collect Art. Buy Art. Create Art. Art IS Life!

mary:

serious case, this is inspiring me big time and reminding me that i will get there. because i am dealing with a roller coaster of emotions by dealing with my fixer-upper house i just bought. i already promised myself that i will create an unique feeling in my house with the collections of artwork by deaf artists. by doing demo on my awful kitchen, i discovered the frame that holds 2 windows - that was covered with the drywall. so, i will remove old paint and treat it as a frame - without glass - along with little things on it - and put it in my bedroom.

just love your house, and i am simply jealous!! very beautiful. sarah, you forgot my gift!! - but only if you want - no hard feelings at all.

once again, it is a champ collection. hope to visit yours someday in the near future.
hugs,
mary

MARY!!!! WE have the photo in an enveloped stored safely until we figure out the PERFECT wall in the house to put it up on. We have tons of artwork and have to be patient to put them up.... just need to wait, and also need the perfect frame for it. We love that heel photo, it is marvelous and we thank you SO much for sending us that. We treasure it. We would LOVE to have you (and you others) to come stay with us and hang out in Maison Looziana! ;-)
